Coffee is complicated. Enjoying it doesn’t have to be.
Do you roast your own coffee?
We do! Our coffee is roasted right here at Dynamo in Colorado Springs.
Roasting in-house gives us the opportunity to spend a lot of time with each coffee, learning what makes it interesting, experimenting with the roast, and finding the version we’re most excited to put in your cup or send home with you.
Where does your coffee come from?
All over the world, but primarily Central and South America.
Coffee only grows well in particular climates, which means every bag has already traveled quite a distance before it reaches our roasting room. We work with trusted importers and, when possible, develop more direct relationships with the people growing the coffees we serve.
We care about great coffee, but we also care about remembering that coffee begins with people.
What's the difference between light, medium, and dark roast?
Mostly, it describes how far we take a coffee through the roasting process.
Generally, lighter roasts preserve more of a coffee's bright, fruity, floral, or origin-specific characteristics. Darker roasts develop deeper, richer flavors associated with the roasting process itself. Medium roasts live somewhere in between.
None is inherently “better.” The best roast is the one you enjoy drinking.
What do tasting notes mean? Is my coffee flavored?
Unless a bag specifically says otherwise, nope!
If you see cherry, white peach, chocolate, caramel or something similarly delicious printed on a bag, those aren't ingredients we've added. They're flavors and aromas we notice naturally in the coffee.
Think of tasting notes more like a helpful suggestion than a test you're supposed to pass.
